Name: Duane Dockter

Specialty: ER/ICU

Number of assignments: 5

Number of years with Fastaff: 16 years intermittently

Why do you love working with Fastaff?

Fastaff has always been able to place me in appropriate assignments that utilize my skillset. They have always placed me quickly and have addressed any issues that come up quickly and efficiently.

What do you love about nursing?

The variety of experiences I have gained over 35 years in healthcare has allowed me to have a very fulfilling and interesting professional life.

What makes travel nursing rewarding for you?

The variety of people and locations that I have experienced during my travel career has been absolutely amazing.

Tell me about a time when you felt more valuable/respected because of the experience and knowledge you gained from your Fastaff assignment.

Times I have been able to bring experiences and knowledge from one hospital/assignment to another that is experiencing similar problems and issues, it has been very satisfying to be able to help the current assignment hospital quickly address and overcome the particular issue or problem and better serve their community due to information or processes I have been able to suggest.

What has been your most challenging Fastaff assignment and how did you feel that impacted your worth as a nurse afterward?

Covid assignments. All of them. The impact is, so far, indescribable, and unresolved. I think I am probably on that same boat with most nurses who went all the way from start to now with covid assignments though.

Describe the most miraculous or impressive thing you’ve witnessed or been a part of during your time as a nurse with Fastaff.

The first patient that, (literally), walked out of the hospital after being on a vent in the ICU with covid.

How have you accomplished some of your personal and professional goals by traveling with Fastaff?

I have taken assignments with Fastaff that have pushed me to expand my career- rural environments for this city guy have really been a change- and have enabled me to use all my varied experience to really bring a difference to the community and staff around me.
