Name: Patricia Pitts
Specialty: High Risk OB (L&D, LDRP, M/B & High Risk Ante Partum)
Number of assignments: Three
Number of years with Fastaff: Nine years.
Why do you love working with Fastaff?
No blended rates! What you see is what you get.
What do you love about nursing?
After almost 40 years as a nurse and over 25 as a Career Travel Nurse (that's how I describe what I do), I love what I do to the point that is really doesn’t even seem like work anymore. I go to my assignment, give my 110%, make lots of friends along the way, and mentor and teach those new to OB and Travel Nursing. I also facilitate educational offerings & certification renewals. I love what I do!
What makes travel nursing rewarding for you?
The fact that I can be my own boss, work where and when I want to and be Nurse Entrepreneur, using my time and energies to my advantage.
What has been your most challenging Fastaff assignment (a difficult case, surgery, patient illness, etc.) and how did you feel that impacted your worth as a nurse afterwards?
I look at every assignment as a challenge.
Describe a time where you felt more valuable/respected because of the experience and knowledge you gained from your Fastaff assignment.
I always seem to end up with the sickest of the sick patients. I get to shine and show my skill as a true HR/OB Nurse. I feel valued and respected as a team member when I can jump in and help in areas where I am not asked and no one knew that I could - like scrubbing for a Stat C/Section without orientation and helping in any way that I can to get things done. When you are acknowledged as an important part of the team and someone says a simple, "thank you for being a team player”.
Describe the most miraculous or impressive thing you’ve witnessed or been a part of during your time as a nurse with Fastaff.
Being a part of a private family event like the birth of a baby. That is as miraculous as it gets for me every single time.
How have you accomplished some of your personal and professional goals by traveling with Fastaff (i.e. family life, financial freedom, more personal freedom, etc.)?
I have accomplished the start of a non-profit Maternal Infant Project International to provide high-risk OB education in Guyana, South America to help to reduce the Maternal & Infant death rate there. I have started my own travel agency, Majestic1 Vacations International LLC, providing vacation, education & certification opportunities at vacation destinations - OB Nurses Cruise & Learn Education Series is one of those events. Flexibility with my time is key!
