June 24, 2019

Fastaff nurses are rewarded and recognized for the experience, skills, and dedication they bring to each travel nursing assignment. This nurse is someone who exemplifies the Fastaff values. Read below to learn more about June’s Nurse of the Month, Christy Norryce:

Name: Christy Norryce

Specialty: Emergency Room

Number of assignments: Two

Number of years with Fastaff: Five

Why do you love working with Fastaff?

I love working with Fastaff because of the flexibility of the assignments, the pay, and that they are a no-hassle company. They tell you upfront what they need from you, you provide it, and from there it is game on. Fastaff does not hide anything from you either; everything is up-front, from the pay to the housing.

What do you love about nursing?

I knew I wanted to be a nurse forever, but I had some setbacks and got into the nursing game late. However, when I did start nursing, I was in love with my job. I love being in the Emergency Room, where I see everything from birth to death and everything in-between. Everyone deserves someone to be compassionate and caring to them, especially when they are not feeling well. I was taught early in life that what you see on the outside does not represent what is going on in the inside. I remember that daily with my job and apply it to each patient.

What makes travel nursing rewarding for you?

Travel nursing is my favorite thing ever. I have friends all over the country now and have gained valuable experience and knowledge from different hospitals, doctors and coworkers. I love the fact that now if I travel to a different state that I have friends in that state. That never would have happened if I would have stayed in my hometown working at my home hospital.

Describe a time where you felt more valuable/respected because of the experience and knowledge you gained from your Fastaff assignment.

There have been times where I had an intervention to complete and remembered a different way that I was shown or taught at a different hospital and used it then. I also have worked with some amazing doctors but I remember one doctor in Las Vegas that helped me through a patient that was in DIC. When I was on another assignment, we were talking about the rarity of having a patient in full-blown DIC in the ED and I was able to speak up and state that I have actually taken care of a patient in that situation and was able to answer questions that were asked of the situation.

What has been your most challenging Fastaff assignment (a difficult case, surgery, patient illness, etc.) and how did you feel that impacted your worth as a nurse afterwards?

One of my most challenging cases ever was a woman that I was working with in triage that was complaining of back pain. Something did not look right about the patient and I went and found the doctor that was covering in triage and suggested a CT scan. As the patient was laughing and joking about how we had to hurry up because she was leaving for vacation to visit her grandchildren, the patient coded on the table. My heart broke for her because she was alone in the ED and the family was calling her phone after she had coded and passed. I felt helpless but it also taught me once again to go with your gut feeling.

Describe the most miraculous or impressive thing you’ve witnessed or been a part of during your time as a nurse with Fastaff.

One the most miraculous thing I have witnessed on an assignment was the birth of a baby from a woman who did not know she was pregnant. The shock on her face and her spouse's was something I will not forget and the joy that was felt in the room was amazing. We also had about six seconds to get everything we needed that was in a totally different room in the ED.

How have you accomplished some of your personal and professional goals by traveling with Fastaff (i.e. family life, financial freedom, more personal freedom, etc.)?

Working with Fastaff has allowed me to grow as a person and a nurse. It has allowed me to travel the country, try new adventures, foods, and meet new friends everywhere. I have enjoyed every assignment that I have had with Fastaff and my recruiter is amazing and is always looking out for me. I’m looking forward to my next assignment with them.
