Some additional requirements and certifications may be requested by the specific facility or unit where you end up working. Your recruiter will assist with finding positions that best fit your skills and experience.

Cath Lab Tech Job Description

Working as a cath lab tech allows you to serve in a critical role assisting doctors and healthcare professionals while they perform cardiovascular procedures. Cath lab techs, also called cardiac catheterization technologists, are primarily responsible for handling the technical aspects during cardiac catheterization procedures, angioplasties and electrophysiology.

You'll spend the majority of your time in the operating room and assist with everything from inserting heart catheters to administering fluids to monitoring patients throughout the procedure. Many times, EKGs will be used on patients to diagnose and treat conditions related to the heart or vascular system, and as a cath lab tech, you will often read and interpret the readouts.

Job Responsibilities and Duties

Your main responsibility as a cath lab technician is to support physicians as they diagnose heart conditions in patients. You'll be with the patient and healthcare team before, during and after the cardiovascular procedures. Some of your responsibilities may involve keeping doctors and healthcare professionals informed of abnormal EKG readouts and providing documentation of patient procedures.

While serving as a travel cath lab tech, you'll get to embrace a great deal of variety in your career — and your life. Instead of settling into the same routine day after day, as a traveler, you'll only work a limited time at a location before moving on to a new adventure. With this position, you can grow as a cath lab tech as you learn how to adapt and thrive in new environments.
